Checker

Why Statusvane is visiting your site

Statusvane is an uptime monitoring service. One of our customers asked us to check that a website, API, server or game server they run is up. We make one small request at a time, on a fixed schedule, and only to the addresses our customers set up.

What the checker does

  • HTTP(S) checks request one URL (usually with GET or HEAD) and look at the status code, response time and, when configured, a keyword or a field in the response.
  • Network checks open a TCP connection, send an ICMP ping, read a TLS certificate or resolve a DNS record. Game server checks send the game’s standard status query.
  • We never crawl, follow links, submit forms or run JavaScript, and we read at most 1 MB of a response.
  • Private and internal addresses are never contacted, even if a customer enters one.

Checks from several regions

Some customers check from several cities at once. Those requests come from the Globalping probe network, not from our own servers, so they use Globalping’s addresses and user agent.
